Mestre and Carvajal rescue a point for Castilla against Ibiza

Mestre and Carvajal helped Castilla come away with a point after a difficult match against Ibiza, which ended 1-1. The goalkeeper produced a series of saves, while the forward scored the equaliser in the closing minutes.

Pedro Ortiz put Ibiza ahead in the 13th minute. Castilla, short of its usual clinical edge and defensive solidity away from Di Stéfano, was behind before the first quarter of an hour had passed. As the team pushed for an equaliser, it also gave Raúl Llona’s side opportunities to extend the lead. But Mestre kept his team in the contest, saving efforts from Manu Justo and Ander Yoldi.

Castilla’s vulnerability was again apparent whenever Ibiza got near the penalty area. The introduction of Roberto Martín and Leiva gave the reserve side more purpose in possession. In the 60th minute, Carvajal struck the crossbar from a fine Roberto Martín pass, and Yáñez could not convert the rebound. Astals later tested Mestre, who dealt with the danger once again. Carvajal finally levelled in the 79th minute.

The point is valuable, but Castilla remain without an away win. The team is coached by Julián López de Lerma. The match was played at Municipal de Can Misses in Ibiza.
