Egypt dominated the cups at the Arab wushu kung fu championships, winning 55 medals. The tally came in sanda, styles and duan bing, alongside first place in the overall standings, underlining the scale of Egypt’s performance.

Sherif Mostafa, president of the Egyptian, Arab and African Wushu Kung Fu Federation and vice-president of the sport’s international federation, said the results reflected both the ability of Egyptian athletes and the work being done to develop wushu kung fu. He also sees them as evidence of stronger competition across the Arab scene.

The championships brought together several competitions: the seventh Arab national-team event in sanda and styles, as well as the first national-team event in duan bing. Hosted in Tunisia from October 6 to 10, they drew 10 Arab countries.

Egyptian teams collected 51 gold medals and four silver medals. They also won the first-place cups in sanda, styles and duan bing. The teams behind Egypt finished second and third in the overall standings.

The Egyptian delegation was not limited to national-team athletes. According to Mostafa, it also included male and female competitors from seven Egyptian clubs. He described the approach as a way to widen participation, give more talents the chance to compete and gain experience, and prepare a new generation of champions able to represent Egypt.

A total of 70 Egyptian male and female athletes took part in the junior and youth events, representing the national team and the seven clubs. Alongside the medals and cups, the size of the delegation gives Egypt’s top finish a wider significance: immediate success was paired with a broader pool of participants.
