Álvaro Arbeloa’s Fulham lost 2-1 to newly promoted Ipswich after letting a second-half lead slip. Sessegnon had put the team ahead, but Fulham could neither protect its advantage nor come away with a point. After six rounds without a win, the result could add to the pressure around the coach.
Fulham broke the deadlock after the interval and tried to hold on to the goal through to the final whistle. In the 55th minute, following several corners in succession, the ball fell to Sessegnon near the edge of the area. His firm, low shot found the net to put Fulham 1-0 ahead.
The closing stages, however, went Ipswich’s way. The visitors pushed closer to Leno’s goal and began creating chances, driven more by commitment and the need to respond than by control of the game. Fulham could not hold its lead, and Ipswich won 2-1.
The defeat extends a difficult run for Arbeloa’s side: they have yet to win after six rounds. Losing after taking the lead is likely to intensify questions around the coach.
