Former delivery driver Joe Dean is tied with Grant Forrest at the top of the Open de Espana leaderboard ahead of the final round in Madrid. The Englishman and the Scot go into the last day together after Forrest surrendered the advantage he held at the start of the day.
Forrest began the day one shot clear at Real Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. A bogey at the fifth dropped him down the leaderboard, but birdies at the 11th, 14th and 16th helped him card a four-under-par 67 and reach 13 under overall.
That round brought Forrest level with Dean, who is from Sheffield. Dean signed for a 65, though he might have expected an even better outcome. Forrest, who is seeking a third DP World Tour title, said: “I’m happy with how I handled today.” He acknowledged that he had not played his best, but said he was proud of his resilience, some good putts and a couple of recovery shots that helped him produce another decent score.
“This is one of my favourite tournaments, it’s been good to me in the past, and I’d love nothing more than to go home with a trophy tomorrow,” he added. The Open de Espana will be shown live on Sky Sports Golf from midday on Sunday.
