Asked by Canal+ about OM’s management asking some players to accept lower wages, Igor Paixão said he was ready to make a sacrifice to help the club survive. The Brazilian believes a reduction would be “the best thing to do” if it helps OM.
“No, no, they haven’t discussed a pay cut with me,” he told Canal+. Paixão nevertheless said he was willing to take part in the effort presented by president Stéphane Richard. The player explained: “If you have to reduce your salary to help the club, it’s the best thing to do and then increase it. You just have to have a discussion and decide on the best way to do that.”
Paixão came close to leaving OM this summer for Sunderland in the Premier League. In early September, Stéphane Richard recalled that “We did a lot of things this summer.” The president also said: “The trajectory has been completely changed compared with the last two seasons.”
Paixão’s stance comes as discussions over wage reductions are being held with some players. Stéphane Richard has said the aim is to present the club’s efforts to the DNCG at the end of the year.
