Aleix Febas was moved by the welcome he received in Elche. Returning on Sunday to the Martínez Valero for the first time since his summer departure, the midfielder was back at a ground where he had played during the previous three seasons. Supporters and his former club were there to show their affection.
Febas retains a special attachment to Elche, where he says he enjoyed three happy years and played an important role. “I don’t know if I deserve so much affection. We built a very special bond with them, and it moves me,” he said. He added that he tried not to let his emotions show too much on the pitch, but that he would always remember the match.
The player also looked back on his time there with gratitude: “During the three years I was there, I gave everything I had.” He recalled the team’s achievements during that spell, including promotion and a memorable season of survival, which he described as an unforgettable memory.
The reception for Febas contrasted with the one given to Álvaro Núñez, who was booed by the supporters who had once backed him. They have not forgiven his departure in the last winter transfer window.
