Yéremy Pino completed Crystal Palace’s win over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, as Oliver Glasner returned to Selhurst Park as Forest’s coach. The reunion ended in Pierre Sage’s favour: his side claimed its first home Premier League victory since he replaced Glasner during the summer.
Forest made the better start. Dan Ndoye scored in the third minute after a weak Anan Khalaili header sent him through on Walter Benítez. The Argentina goalkeeper then kept Forest from adding to its lead, and his saves helped set Palace’s comeback in motion.
Daichi Kamada equalised with his first Premier League goal, in his 68th appearance in the competition. He had won the Europa League under Glasner at Eintracht Frankfurt before following him to Selhurst Park. Jefferson Lerma then put Palace ahead from a corner just before the interval, and Pino secured the win from the rebound.
Glasner had received a warm welcome from Palace supporters, who had once celebrated the coach. Glasner’s summer move to Forest further heightened tensions stemming from Palace’s Europa League demotion the previous season, although he received a warm welcome before kick-off. But chants from the stands also recalled the strained relations: home fans revived their song against UEFA and Evangelos Marinakis, while Forest supporters sang, “We’ve got Ollie Glasner.” Forest’s owner, absent from the directors’ box, is suing Palace and unidentified people over a banner displayed at an earlier match.
Forest had chances to regain the lead, including when Benítez denied Liam Delap and then tipped Morgan Gibbs-White’s shot on to the crossbar. Delap missed another opportunity with a header. Just before half-time, Kamada pounced after Strand Larsen’s pass was deflected to equalise. Lerma then scored from a corner, and Palace took control. After another dangerous set-piece, Forest finally gave way to the move finished by Pino.
Glasner walked off at half-time looking displeased. The collapse after Forest conceded the equaliser is likely to raise serious concerns for Evangelos Marinakis. Palace fans also asked Glasner about the score, while Ndoye and Neco Williams had further chances late on, but neither could prevent Forest and its coach from being well beaten.
