Getafe are waiting for an update on Zaid Romero, who left injured and in tears during the match against Barcelona. The club said on Sunday that the defender had felt a sharp twinge in his left quadriceps and was awaiting diagnostic tests. His availability will depend on how he progresses, Getafe added.
After the match, Getafe coach Bordalás relayed the player’s words: “Zaid says he felt a twinge. We’ll have to wait for the tests.” The injury could be significant as the team faces a demanding run of midweek and weekend fixtures. Romero’s possible absence would be a considerable setback ahead of Getafe’s Conference debut next week in Romania against Universitatea de Craiova.
Romero is an important part of Getafe’s central defence. He arrived on loan in January and was later bought by the club for around five million euros to strengthen that area. The tests should help clarify how the injury affects his availability as the schedule gathers pace.
