“We won’t get anywhere with sabotage,” Mariano de Paco said. The councillor spoke publicly after the suspension of Rayo-Athletic. He had been asked about the situation at Estadio de Vallecas after taking part in the “Madrid corre en español” race.
“I find it absolutely reprehensible,” he said at the outset. He went on to reiterate his opposition to violence and sabotage, saying the administration was fully aware of the stadium problem and was working to resolve it. Before the match, he added, he had called for trust and calm, including in a message posted on X.
Mariano de Paco also urged violent groups to stop their actions immediately, saying that approach could not solve a problem the administration had taken on. He said Rayo Vallecano would remain in Vallecas, in a stadium worthy of the club and the vast majority of its supporters. Violence and aggression, he argued, made no sense while the problem was being resolved.
“What we need is calm, a constructive mindset and to be allowed to work,” he concluded, saying the Vallecas stadium would be renovated and the team would stay in Vallecas.
