“We have to face this and make our own noise”: after City’s victory at Anfield, Enzo Maresca made responding to criticism the focus of his message. The coach spoke after the 0-3 win and stressed the need to concentrate on away matches, where the noise from the stands will be present.
Maresca described a difficult first half, in which his team had the ball but did not perform well without it. He said changes at the break significantly improved the performance, particularly in building play. “In the second half we made some adjustments and improved a lot,” he explained.
The crowd noise, he added, could also bring the supporters and team closer together. Maresca recalled having already experienced this kind of match with City, during the treble season. He said he did not know for certain whether the atmosphere could create that unity, but stressed that his team had to show passion and try to turn that energy into a win.
On the pitch, City matched the best start of the Guardiola era, with 18 points from a possible 18. The team is the sole leader while its future remains unresolved, as the question of whether a sanction will follow is decided. For now, it is answering on the field.
