José Mourinho is reportedly planning to change the positions of four Real Madrid players. The coach continues to adjust his lineup to make the most of his squad, while Defensa Central reports that he wants to test the versatility of some players in pursuit of stronger performances.
Fede Valverde, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Arda Güler are among those who could be affected. The idea would be to give them different roles, although the changes are not presented as settled. Mourinho could, in particular, deploy Alexander-Arnold in midfield. He has already tried that option against Inter Milan, but it did not produce the desired outcome.
The positional changes could also address Real Madrid’s defensive needs. The club is dealing with injuries to Eder Militao and Raul Asencio, while Ibrahima Konaté has just returned to fitness. These circumstances could lead Mourinho to look for a centre-back partner for Dean Huijsen.
Tchouaméni could be one solution: Mourinho believes the Frenchman can bring stability to the back line and would prefer him to a player from the club’s academy, in part because of the midfielder’s experience in that role. The coach has also noticed what the Turkish player can offer in the middle. As for the English player, Mourinho is not currently thinking of dropping him from the starting XI. Against opponents who sit deep and allow Real Madrid possession, Trent could also become a decisive presence.
