Iván Martín: “What makes us feel most comfortable is playing at home”

“What makes us feel most comfortable is playing at home,” Iván Martín said. He spoke after Racing de Santander’s 2-2 draw with Valencia, in which he scored his first goal of the season.

Martín believes the comfort of playing at home helps explain the team’s greater difficulty away. He noted that teams generally feel “safer and stronger” on their own ground. Racing will nevertheless try to earn its first points away from Santander on its next matchday, in Pamplona.

After the goal, the team failed to keep the ball for long spells and dropped too deep, Martín acknowledged. That allowed Valencia to attack more and eventually equalise. He also referred to the team’s tactical and formation changes, but stressed that playing at home remains what makes them feel most comfortable.
