“The goalkeeper saved two points for Valencia,” José Alberto said while assessing Racing’s match against the Valencian side. The coach gave the performance a positive verdict and felt Racing deserved to win.
“We did a lot of things well in a match that became difficult for us from the start. It was the best first half since I became Racing’s coach. We also had good spells in the second half,” he said. He also acknowledged Valencia’s merits, while regretting that his team had not managed to finish the job.
José Alberto pointed in particular to a lack of cutting edge at both ends of the pitch. “A Valencia win would not have been fair; we lacked attacking and defensive sharpness. In the last 10 minutes, their goalkeeper saved two points for them.” He also said his side had taken 20 shots at the opposing goal and created chances to win, before adding: “We have to be more solid in defence.”
Valencia’s early goal displeased him, but he found encouragement in its timing. “The good thing was that it came in the first minute, because we had plenty of time to come back. Racing is recognisable at home and we will be very strong.” He also praised Javier, describing him as “a great coach with a great track record” and saying his team would compete well.
