Memphis Depay has been subjected to a fierce attack, with Clarence Seedorf at the centre of the criticism. Neto, a former Brazilian footballer turned sports commentator, considers the Dutch forward chiefly responsible for the crisis facing his team.

The situation is particularly tense: the club is close to the relegation zone, with the threat of going down still hanging over it. The appointment of Clarence Seedorf as the new coach, announced the previous day, has not calmed everyone.

Neto also takes aim at the choice of Seedorf. He believes the arrival of his compatriot is linked to Memphis Depay and denounces the role of people he describes as opportunists. “For me, Memphis is the main person responsible for what is happening at Corinthians right now,” he says.

His remarks therefore address both the responsibility he assigns to Depay for the crisis and the circumstances surrounding the new coach’s arrival. With the team facing the threat of relegation, the public criticism adds to the pressure surrounding the forward and the change at the helm.
