Isaac Romero scored to put the score at 2-3 in the match between Levante and Sevilla in the 95th minute, before being sent off. His celebration—a gesture telling the crowd to be quiet—came before his dismissal. The match ended 3-3.

Tensions had already built before kick-off: groups of supporters from both teams had arranged to meet and fight several hours earlier. Played in a charged atmosphere, the match boiled over in second-half stoppage time. Romero received two cautions in four minutes.

After his gesture, Levante supporters threw a large number of objects onto the pitch. Referee Cordero Vega then showed Sevilla’s forward a second caution, and Romero left the field dismissed.

After the match, Sevilla player Agoumé challenged the decision in an interview with Movistar: “The problem isn’t the 3-3; it’s that the referee takes a player away from us for a celebration. Isaac wasn’t doing anything wrong. He celebrated as he always does. I expect an explanation from the referee for that red card.”

Down to ten men, Sevilla could not hold on to its advantage: Levante equalised in the 100th minute through a goal by Ndueke.
