“Barça are the team that plays the best football in Europe”: that is Laporta’s assessment, as he chose to focus on his club rather than comment on the controversies surrounding Real Madrid and Vinicius. In Turkey, before the match against Galatasaray, he highlighted Barça’s ambitions and the team’s positive run.
Speaking about the Champions League fixture, which he called the best club competition in the world, Laporta said Barça were “in a good moment”. He also reflected on the previous day’s training, which he said had been intense and had left the players highly motivated. “We have good feelings,” he said.
The president also praised the work being done around the team. He credited Flick with building a strong team spirit and said the combination with Deco was working. In his view, the atmosphere in the dressing room and the players’ ambition are essential elements.
Laporta also said Barça should regard themselves as contenders for titles, including the Champions League. He named the Cup among the competitions the club intends to pursue ambitiously and said he wants the team to be in contention in every competition it enters. He also praised the summer work done by Deco and his team, as well as the quality of the squad.
The club president pointed to Barça’s current run, saying it could reach a tenth consecutive win. In LaLiga, he said the team had won eight in a row, which he described as a record. “We are winning matches; that is what matters to us,” he said.
Asked about Lamine, Laporta said he could win the Ballon d’Or and deserved it. He summed up the club’s Champions League ambitions plainly: “We are contenders.”
