Two days before OM face Olympiakos in the Europa League on Thursday at 9 p.m., the Greek club’s supporters will be unable to go to the Vélodrome or move through several areas of Marseille. A prefectural order published on Tuesday also bars them from parking in six districts, including the 8th, where the stadium is located.

The restriction runs from 8 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, until 2 a.m. on Friday, October 16. It extends beyond the stadium itself, covering the city centre and nearby areas as well. The prefecture says the measure is justified by police being deployed around the city’s high schools.

The prefect considers that, without additional personnel, a security operation suited to the arrival of the Greek supporters « is not possible ». Supporters of AEK Athens, who are close to Marseille’s groups and rivals of Olympiakos, are not covered by the order and could also be in the city.
