Al-Ittihad suffered another defeat in Asia, losing 2-1 to Shabab Al-Ahli on Tuesday at Alinma Stadium in Jeddah. The match was part of the second round of the league phase of the Asian competition, extending the Saudi side’s difficult run in the current edition of the AFC Elite Champions League.
Shabab Al-Ahli went ahead in the 7th minute. Sardar Azmoun finished the move after Guilherme Bala’s individual run, during which he beat several opponents before setting up his teammate in front of an open goal.
For Al-Ittihad, the loss extended a run of defeats: last Saturday, the side had gone down 3-1 to Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League Roshn.
The result also strengthened Shabab Al-Ahli’s position in the group. The club recorded a second consecutive win in the AFC Elite Champions League and now have six points, placing fourth in the West.
