Al-Shorta announced on Wednesday that it had amicably parted ways with Sami Trabelsi. The decision also ends the club’s ties with every member of the first-team football technical staff. It comes just after the team recorded an away win in continental competition.
On Tuesday, Al-Shorta beat East Bengal 3-2 in the second round of the Asian League Cup “2”. The away result was the team’s second win in Group D, putting it top of the group after two rounds. The change involving the coaching staff was therefore announced on the back of a positive result in the competition; that victory did not alter the club’s decision to end its collaboration with Trabelsi and the technical staff.
In the league, Al-Shorta are sixth with 16 points after nine rounds. That position is another part of the team’s record at the time of the announcement, while its place at the top of the continental group reflects a strong start to that stage of the competition. The two campaigns have thus produced different standings.
Trabelsi took charge of training at Al-Shorta on 5 July last year. The club has now announced the end of that collaboration, along with its relationship with the entire first-team technical staff, following a second continental victory.
