Nouran Gohar eliminated Nour El Sherbini to qualify for the semi-finals of the Egypt International Squash Championship. She will face world No. 1 Amina Orfi, who secured her place earlier in the day with a 3-0 win over England’s Georgina Kennedy.
Weather conditions disrupted the quarter-final schedule. The matches were due to finish today on the glass court at Giza, where the first day’s quarter-final matches had been played the previous day, but the bad weather prevented play at that venue.
After matches were postponed because of the weather around the pyramids, the day’s fixtures were moved to the courts at O West club. Gohar won her match 3-1, with game scores of 11-7, 7-11, 11-5 and 11-4. The match lasted 44 minutes.
From the quarter-finals onward, tournament matches are being played on the glass court at Giza, with that arrangement due to continue through the finals scheduled for October 16. Gohar’s qualification now sets up her meeting with Orfi in the battle for a place in the final.
