Bodo/Glimt claimed a 1-0 win over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday in the second round of the Champions League league phase. The Norwegian club added another chapter to a European story that included reaching the last 16 last season. This time, it overcame a Dortmund side led by recently renewed Niko Kovac.
Bodo/Glimt’s control was evident in the first half, when its pressing and intensity stifled Dortmund’s attacks. The Norwegians failed to convert their chances before the break, despite having the better of the play. Dortmund, second in the Bundesliga on the same points as leaders Freiburg, then raised its tempo.
Kovac’s substitutions helped change the course of the match. Felix Nmecha, brought on for Veerman, revived Dortmund’s play and helped the team put Bodo/Glimt under pressure. That response, however, did not prevent the Norwegian side from taking the win.
The result also comes after a difficult opening to Bodo/Glimt’s European campaign: the club lost 5-0 to Bayern in its first match. The victory over Dortmund is a clear response, though it does not in itself establish any consequence for the standings or qualification.
