Stade Rennais came from behind to beat OFI Crete 2-1 in the Europa League, securing their first win in the competition this season. The result was also Franck Haise’s first victory in European competition. The Rennes coach celebrated as the decisive goal went in.

Before this match, Rennes had opened their European campaign with a 0-0 draw away to Sturm Graz. Against OFI Crete, they had to wait until the closing stages to turn the game around. Nagida equalised in the 76th minute, before Aït-Boudlal struck the winner in the 91st. The match was played on Thursday at Roazhon Park.

Haise’s first European victory ended a lengthy wait for a win. Previously, in the Europa League with Les Aiglons, he had overseen 15 matches, with four draws and 11 defeats and no victories.

Mahdi Camara stressed that the achievement belonged first and foremost to the team. “We know about this stat because journalists talk about it, but the coach said that if we win, it’s for Stade Rennais,” he said after the match against the Greeks, speaking to Canal+. For Rennes, the three points brought a first Europa League win this season; for Haise, they ended the wait for a first victory in European competition.
