José Gomes has denied reports suggesting he could return to lead Zamalek. The Portuguese coach, who is in charge of Al-Khaleej, says his full attention is on his current team. Zamalek recruited him in February 2024, and he announced his departure about ten months after taking charge.
It was the club’s first league win of the season. Speaking at the post-match press conference, the coach said: « Following the news, Egyptian media and rumours about me moving from one club to another will drive me crazy. » He also pointed to how stories change as they circulate: « If a story starts now and passes from one person to another, we will see a different story each time; what about when there are 120 million Egyptians?! »
Gomes went on to stress: « These rumours are false, all the stories are different, and my full attention is with Al-Khaleej to build a strong group. » The victory lifted Al-Khaleej to 9 points and eleventh place in the standings. During his spell at Zamalek, Gomes led the team in 47 matches, winning 27, drawing 9 and losing 11. He also won the African Confederation Cup and the African Super Cup with the club.
