The United States Grand Prix is set to feature an unusual attraction: the Circuit of the Americas plans to build what it describes as the world’s largest cowboy hat, with a bar inside. Guinness World Records may take notice, and a Guinness representative is due to inspect the build on the Thursday before race weekend.
The project could also create a new category in the record book. There is no existing Guinness World Record for the largest cowboy hat. If Guinness verifies the attempt, COTA could therefore establish the category.
Epstein explained the thinking behind the installation: « I thought the circuit should have a tourist attraction with some kind of Guinness World Record. » He also summed up the idea this way: « Instead of a regular tent, why not build a 75-foot cowboy hat? »
Guinness has previously certified a different record involving cowboy hats: in 2012, 39,013 people wearing them gathered at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. This time, attention turns to a structure, with any record recognition dependent on Guinness’s inspection.
