Brendan Rodgers made no attempt to hide his confidence ahead of Friday’s meeting between Al-Qadsiah and Al-Hilal in the 11th round of the Saudi Roshn Professional League. The Irish coach said he was eagerly anticipating the fixture and praised the work done at the club in recent times. His message was summed up in one line: “We are at the top… and we fear no one.”

That confidence comes with the two sides occupying the leading places. Al-Qadsiah are top on 25 points, one ahead of second-placed Al-Hilal, who have a game in hand. The standings give the match a direct bearing on the top of the table: the leaders must protect their advantage against a challenger with another fixture still to play. Rodgers also noted that Al-Qadsiah had reached this point after ten matches and said the club would continue working whatever the result.

At his press conference on Thursday, the coach spoke about his players’ enthusiasm as well as the demands of the playing conditions. “We are looking forward to this match and are excited about it. We play in a very hot region, but the players’ mentality has been an important factor,” he said. His remarks presented preparation as a challenge shaped both by the environment and by the pressure of a top-of-the-table fixture.

The schedule is another consideration. Rodgers said neither team had enjoyed a long recovery period. Even so, he believes the players’ professionalism and the medical team’s work help his squad manage the demands of closely spaced matches. He also described every game as a chance to achieve a good result, rather than something that should create pressure.

Respect for the opposition did not soften his challenge. Rodgers called Al-Hilal the best team his side had faced, while adding that the opponent also knew how strong Al-Qadsiah were. He named Watkins and Summerville among Al-Hilal’s quality players, then set out what he wanted from his own side: “We have to be organised and press intensely.”

To explain the confidence, Rodgers also pointed to Al-Qadsiah’s recent path. He recalled that the club had been in the second division two years ago and said the scale of the work since then was clear. On Friday, that progress will be tested in a match where the leaders must defend a narrow advantage, without Rodgers giving up his ambition: “Whatever the result of tomorrow’s match, we will keep working.”
