Torino claimed a 3-2 Serie A win over Monza in a five-goal contest. Kian Fitz-Jim, Rafik Belghali and Nikola Vlašić scored for Torino, while Nathan Patterson’s own goal brought Monza closer late in the match.
Giovanni Simeone won possession and set up Fitz-Jim, who drove into the area and beat Noel Törnqvist. Monza responded shortly after half-time, but Torino regained control as the second half progressed. Patterson’s own goal in stoppage time gave Monza one last route back into the game; Torino held on for the victory.
The result extended Abate’s winning run. Monza, meanwhile, were left to consider the defensive errors made during the match. After eight Serie A games, Torino are seventh on 13 points, while Monza are 14th on seven, leaving six points between them. Torino’s record stands at four wins, one draw and three defeats, with 13 goals scored and 11 conceded. Monza have two wins, one draw and five losses, with 15 goals scored and 18 conceded. Across their last five league matches, Torino have three wins, one draw and one defeat; Monza have won twice and lost three times.
Abate praised his team’s response after conceding, while acknowledging that improvements were still needed. “I liked the reaction after the goal we conceded. We wanted to win with quality and feeling, and we played a very good match,” he said. He also said that building a connection with the supporters had been a focus since his arrival. “For us, enthusiasm has to be fuel. We have to play with feeling for our people.” He added that the crowd could lift the players.
Monza coach Ivan Jurić felt his team had lacked energy as the match went on and had lost too many important duels. “The Torino defenders won a lot of duels; we won far fewer,” he said. Jurić also thought the outcome might have changed when Ricardo Mangas went down in the area. “It seemed like a penalty to me,” he said, adding that he did not want to dwell on the decision. He acknowledged that Torino had been better overall and said he hoped to have defender Jan Ziolkowski back for a busy schedule.
