After Inter’s defeat to Real Madrid, Curtis Jones pushed back against criticism of his display. The midfielder believes his attacking contribution in Madrid deserved greater recognition from supporters. The former Liverpool player pointed in particular to his involvement in Inter’s attacking play during the match.

Jones did not dispute supporters’ right to judge his performances. “It’s fair that the fans have their opinions about my performances,” he said. However, he disagreed with the criticism that followed the game against Real Madrid, believing it did not fully reflect his contribution. He also acknowledged that supporters may assess his display differently depending on which match they compare it with.

To make his case, Jones highlighted several moments from the game: “When I look at the game in Madrid, I think I had the most shots. I created more than anyone else in the team, I was very involved. I hit the crossbar and almost scored.”

The defeat came as Real Madrid sit third in Liga with 21 points after nine matches. The club have seven wins, no draws and two defeats, with 23 goals scored and nine conceded. Across their five most recent league matches, they have won four and lost one.

Jones is continuing to establish himself at Inter after leaving Liverpool, while working towards a more settled role. He is not promising consistently impressive performances: he accepts that the team will not always play well or score in every match. But he says he intends to keep taking an assertive approach when games become difficult. “I can assure you that I will never be timid or scared. I don’t want to be a player who always has an easy way out. I want to take risks.”
