A date has now been set for the announcement of the venue for the 2030 World Cup final, which Spain, Morocco and Portugal are jointly hosting. The stadium has yet to be selected, with several options under consideration.
Last Tuesday, RFEF president Rafael Louzán again expressed his confidence that the final would be played in Spain. He named the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid and Camp Nou in Barcelona, describing them as the two Spanish venues with the capacity required. Both are competing with the future Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca. Morocco has also publicly expressed its wish to host the match.
The timing of the decision matters for the tournament’s planning. For the World Cup held in the United States, Mexico and Canada, the New Jersey venue was not selected until February 2024. The choice of stadium for the 2030 final will likewise have a bearing on the competition’s final design.
In Spain, Valencia and Vigo remain options that the RFEF is considering putting forward to FIFA to host matches, as it believes both cities meet the requirements for four years’ time.
