“The club’s position is firm: there are obvious material errors,” Manchester City’s statement says. The club announced that it had appealed the decision of the Independent Commission, which found it responsible for 114 of the 115 breaches it had investigated.
Manchester City says its appeal was lodged at 7 p.m. on Thursday, 1 October 2026. In its statement, Manchester City Football Club describes the appeal as a comprehensive challenge to the opinion of the Premier League Commission in the Premier League disciplinary matter.
According to the reported findings, the Commission concluded that money had been invested unlawfully through fraudulent sponsorships, using funds from Abu Dhabi United Group, the club’s owner. The amount cited exceeds 900 million euros. Manchester City is seeking to defend its position against the Commission’s conclusions.
The club argues that the opinion contains errors “of law, principle and fact” and “is not safe”. It says it is “innocent of the allegations made by the Premier League” and claims to have a substantial body of evidence supporting its positions.
Manchester City adds that it will continue to respect due process and is necessarily limited in what it can say until all proceedings have concluded.
