Panathinaikos has denounced the Olympiacos coach for pushing Virtus players after his team’s defeat. The club asked EuroLeague to open disciplinary proceedings against Giorgios Bartzokas over his conduct at the end of the game, which Virtus Bologna won with a three-pointer in the final second.
The incident came with Olympiacos leading 93-96 before the final possession. The winning shot had been made just a few metres from Bartzokas. Amid embraces and jostling during the celebrations, the crowd moved closer to the coach, who pushed away opposing players.
That conduct is reportedly at the heart of Panathinaikos’s move. Journalist Aris Barkas reported that the club had denounced it to EuroLeague. The request is for disciplinary proceedings; it is not, in itself, a decision on the coach’s responsibility.
The incident comes in the third round of EuroLeague, with relations between Panathinaikos and Olympiacos already strained. The club’s request puts the post-game episode at the centre of a new dispute between the two teams, as EuroLeague is asked to examine the conduct that has been denounced.
