Scott McTominay could consider joining Real Madrid if José Mourinho called him: the Scotland midfielder said he would think about that possibility. Interest from the Spanish club is being discussed as his future at Napoli remains uncertain.
Talks between Napoli and the player’s representatives have not progressed, Il Mattino reported. Real Madrid has already made enquiries about his situation, while Premier League clubs are also said to be interested. McTominay, 29, is contracted to Napoli until June 2028. However, a renewal is not an urgent priority for club president Aurelio De Laurentiis, while those close to the player want to resolve his contractual future quickly.
Mourinho could influence the decision. He gave McTominay his first-team debut at Manchester United in 2017 and continued to call him « my son ». Asked whether he would consider joining Real Madrid if the Portuguese coach called, the player replied: « If that happened, I’d think about it. »
The potential interest from Real Madrid comes after an impressive season at Napoli. Last season, McTominay scored 14 goals and provided 4 assists in 44 matches. He was also named the Italian league’s best player for the 2024-2025 season. He joined Napoli from Manchester United in the summer of 2024 for 30.5 million euros.
