Bayern Munich conceded after just 8.4 seconds of a match at the WWK Arena. The stadium thereby became the site of the fastest goal in the competition’s history, a record confirmed by the German league’s official website.
The move began with Harry Kane taking the kick-off. The ball then reached his teammate Neuer, who failed to control it and let it drift slightly away. After the match, Fellhauer said the goal came from a plan devised by Manuel Baum, Augsburg’s coach, after studying Bayern Munich’s approach to kick-offs.
“Before the match, we discussed Bayern Munich’s kick-off tactics, because they pass the ball back to Manuel Neuer, who then plays it long forward,” Fellhauer said. He explained that his job was to sprint in and stop the goalkeeper from playing comfortably. “I saw the ball move slightly away from Neuer, so I tried to press him as much as I could and in whatever way was available to me, and the plan worked very well.”
