“More technology, less real life”: Marcos Llorente sums up his doubts about the direction society is taking. The Atlético de Madrid player shared a reflection on Instagram on Monday, a national public holiday, asking whether technological advances are really improving human relationships.
“Who truly believes that we are moving forward?” he asks at the start of his message. He then contrasts the growing presence of screens with a loss of contact with nature, and digital connection with closeness between people. Llorente, who regularly shares his views on his official accounts, questions the relationship between technological progress and everyday life.
“Today we have access to almost everything, but it increasingly seems that we are further away from what matters most,” he concludes. His reflection addresses an issue beyond football: the balance between digital tools and personal relationships, and their effects on how people connect with nature and one another.
The post comes in the hours before Atlético de Madrid are due to face Manchester United in the Champions League at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. Llorente’s message, however, is not about the match: it asks his followers to consider what technological progress is — or is not — changing in human relationships.
