Juventus, Atlético and Liverpool have all fallen into the trap in Istanbul: that is the warning for Barcelona ahead of their meeting with Galatasaray. The circumstances call for caution from the Catalans, with the atmosphere and intensity inside the Turkish club’s stadium expected to be part of the challenge.
Barcelona are coming off a 5-1 win over Feyenoord, while Galatasaray lost 3-1 away to Sporting in their first match on the road. Despite those contrasting results, Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo warned the Catalan side about the atmosphere at Galatasaray’s ground in an analysis reported by Turkish daily Hürriyet.
To underline the setting, the Spanish daily recalled that Galatasaray are hosting Barcelona again, four years and several months after their 2022 Europa League round-of-16 second leg, which the Catalans won 2-1. Aubameyang and Pedri contributed to that victory. Barcelona return to Ali Sami Yen, where Okan Buruk is now in charge; Domenec Torrent was the coach at the previous meeting. The analysis points to Galatasaray’s pressing and the fervour of its supporters as factors that could weigh on the opposition.
The daily portrays a side that presses aggressively and looks to attack in depth, often lining up in a 4-2-3-1. It also qualifies that assessment: these are the coach’s aims, but the team does not always manage to execute them. Early matches in the Turkish league show that the formation is used frequently.
Victor Osimhen, recovered from a thigh injury, has already provided an assist in the 3-1 match against Kasımpaşa. Reports from Turkey say he is expected to start against Barcelona. His name has also been linked with the Catalan club as a possible alternative to Julián Álvarez of Atlético de Madrid.
The daily also highlights a defensive vulnerability: Galatasaray conceded 11 goals in its first six league matches, including four against Trabzonspor. It says Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick in that defeat. The tactical challenge, according to the analysis, is to balance attacking ambition with caution, while Barcelona must contend with the pressure inside the stadium.
