“If we had finished with 11, they wouldn’t have equalised,” García Plaza said after the match. He also felt his team would not have let the opposition draw level had it ended the game with 11 players. The coach said he was “very proud of the boys”.

García Plaza considered 0-2 a scoreline that was even too narrow for his liking, while noting that “football is played in the penalty areas”. His team came under more pressure after 1-2, but still had chances to get something from the game. He also described the last goal as a chain of deflections, referring to six ricochets, and praised his players.

The Sevilla coach said his team had been “far superior until 0-2”. He also referred to Isaac, adding that other players had made a similar gesture. García Plaza further remarked that whenever his team wins, eight or nine minutes are always added.

Looking ahead, he noted that three of the next four matches would be away. After the trip to the Bernabéu, his team will host Osasuna, followed by the Copa and Getafe. He felt the team was in a good place in terms of confidence and would compete, stressing the need to finish matches and avoid allowing opponents to grow into them.
