Filippo Ganna has committed to Lidl-Trek through 2029. The Italian rider has also pledged himself to the team for the next three seasons. His arrival follows those of Felix Gall and Gregor Mühlberger, with Juan Ayuso, Giulio Ciccone, Derek Gee-West, Jordan Jegat and Mattias Skjelmose also part of the team. Lidl-Trek is set to assemble one of the peloton’s strongest squads.
After eight years with Ineos, Ganna says he is excited to begin a new chapter. “I have big goals that I hope to achieve with Lidl-Trek, especially in the Classics; with the team we will have, nothing is impossible. Of course, Grand Tours remain an important goal, and I hope I can support the team while pursuing my own opportunities,” he said.
He also aims to support Mads Pedersen, whom he calls “the team’s number one.” Ganna added: “I hope to be a good support for him and, in return, I know he will support me a lot.”
Lidl-Trek managing director Andy Schleck praised a rider whose achievements, he said, show his consistent ability at the highest level. Schleck highlighted the range of opportunities Ganna brings, from time trials and Classics to Grand Tours, as well as his power, experience and versatility. He described the Italian as a key part of the team’s plans for the future.
