“We deserved much more, but in Europe you have to kill games off earlier,” Sergio Gómez said, visibly disappointed after a draw in Belgium that he felt could have become a victory. He believed a second goal had seemed more likely than the equaliser, while also lamenting the goal conceded in the closing minutes.
The player nevertheless gave the performance a broadly positive assessment. He acknowledged that his side had found things more difficult in the final third, and pointed to a late chance as well as two other opportunities that went unfinished.
“There are still six matches to go, the objective is clear and we will fight for it until the end,” he added. His comments underscored the importance of taking chances in the European competition, with several opportunities left unconverted.
Sergio Gómez then turned his attention to the league. He called for his side to maintain its good run and try to take all three points in Málaga, a result that, in his view, would help create distance from the teams below and keep the side among the top six, where it stands now.
