Former English league star now drives for Uber

A former star of the English league became an Uber driver after retiring from football. His new line of work came to light when Portuguese influencer André Ramalho discovered by chance who was driving him on a trip he took with a friend.

Porfírio had reportedly stayed out of the spotlight since leaving his player recruitment role at Sporting Lisbon about 13 years ago. André Ramalho is said to have come across him by chance during an Uber ride driven by the former player.

Ramalho said he had ordered a car because he was tired and pressed for time. He described his surprise when he realised who the driver was: « We were stunned when we discovered who was driving the car. How can someone like him do an ordinary job like this? »

The post received thousands of likes on Instagram. Porfírio’s daughter, Madalena, responded with a tribute: « My father is a machine that never stops ».
