Manchester City beat Ipswich Town 3-2 in the 7th round of the Premier League. After the match, Maresca said his team had taken control of the game, creating chances and scoring goals. Speaking to BBC Sport, he also said a fourth goal would have put the result beyond doubt.

The win came against an Ipswich Town side that stood 10th with 9 points after 7 matches. Its league record at that point was 3 wins, no draws and 4 defeats, with 11 goals scored and 15 conceded. In its last five Premier League matches, Ipswich had won twice and lost three times.

Ipswich’s home and away records differed: it had won two of its three home matches and lost one, scoring 4 goals and conceding 4. Away from home, the club had one win and three defeats in four matches, with 7 goals scored and 11 conceded. Across its Premier League matches, Ipswich was averaging 1.57 goals scored and 2.14 conceded per game.

Maresca also spoke about Phil Foden, whom he considers one of the Premier League’s best players. “I said from day one that I liked Phil Foden, I have known him for years and I know his quality and ability well. It is just a matter of helping him get back to his level, so that he can become one of the best players in the league again,” he said.

The coach also praised Ayyoub Bouaddi, particularly for his play on the ball and his movement without it, while noting areas he still needs to develop. “He put in an excellent performance, and I think he was outstanding on and off the ball. He needs to improve certain aspects, but he is on the right track.”
