Bayern Munich made a emphatic statement against Leipzig, winning 6-1 on Saturday to take the lead in the German league. Bayern now have 14 points, while Leipzig remain on 9 in seventh place. The result also allowed Bayern to take advantage of their rival Borussia Dortmund’s draw against Union Berlin. The two sides are level on goal difference.
Bayern’s position at the top reflects an unbeaten start to the Bundesliga campaign. After six matches, their record stands at four wins and two draws, with 22 goals scored and 5 conceded. They have also avoided defeat in their last five league games, winning three and drawing two. Their average is 3.67 goals scored per match and 0.83 conceded.
The home and away figures show Bayern have been effective in both settings. They have won all three of their Bundesliga home matches, scoring 18 goals and conceding 2. On the road, they are unbeaten in three outings, with one win and two draws, scoring 4 and conceding 3. That run adds context to the win over Leipzig, while the immediate significance is clear: Bayern are now at the top, ahead of a Leipzig side sitting seventh.
Luis Díaz, named man of the match, was a central figure in the margin of victory. The Colombian completed a hat-trick, scoring in the 12th, 47th and 69th minutes. Bayern maintained total control after the break, extending the momentum of their strong start to the season.
The win comes a few days before Bayern host Arsenal on Wednesday in the Champions League. They will approach that fixture having strengthened their league position and added another emphatic result to their campaign.
