Andy Carroll has confirmed the name of the man he accuses of sexually assaulting him. “I confirm it,” the footballer said, adding that Kevin Adams had been identified in court documents as his attacker.
In his autobiography, Owning It, Carroll reveals that he was sexually assaulted in 2019 by a man while asleep at home. He says an acquaintance had stayed at his house after watching a boxing match. When he woke up, he says he found the television personality attempting to perform a sexual act on him. Carroll says that after he reported the assault, the man was sentenced to prison.
The former Liverpool player became the most expensive signing in the club’s history in 2011 and earned nine caps for England. In his book, he writes: “I was sexually assaulted. It’s scary even to think about, and only a few people knew until now. […] It’s scary to talk about, but it has made me the person I am today as much as anything else good.” He adds that what happened affected every aspect of his life, including his ability to concentrate on football, and that the trauma has not gone away.
Kevin Adams, a choreographer and dance instructor, was convicted by the Tribunal de la Corona de Chelmsford in 2023. He was placed on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years and barred from entering the town where Carroll lives. Before going to prison, Adams ran the Kevin Adams Academy, a children’s dance school in Harlow, Essex.
